3 Days in Boosaaso
Day 1: Arrival and Sightseeing
After arriving in Boosaaso and checking into my hotel, I decided to spend the day exploring the city's sights. I started by visiting the historic Baalade and Ceele villages, which are home to some of Somalia's oldest structures and traditional homes. I was amazed by the intricate carvings and distinctive architecture, which was unlike anything I had seen before. Afterward, I went to the local market, where I haggled with vendors over souvenirs, spices, and textiles. The market was a lively and colorful hub of activity, with locals and tourists mingling among the stalls. For lunch, I tried some of the city's famous seafood at a local restaurant called Al-Liwan, which served fresh-crab and fish stews. In the evening, I went to the beach to watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean.
Day 2: Adventure and Relaxation
On my second day, I wanted to experience some of the natural beauty of the Bari region. I took a day trip to the Ba'adweyne waterfall, which is a breathtaking spectacle of cascading water surrounded by lush greenery. I swam in the cool, clear waters beneath the falls and took some stunning photos. Afterward, I went to the Cal Madow mountain range, which is a series of tall peaks that stretch into the clouds. I hiked up to the top of one of the mountains and was rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. In the evening, I returned to Boosaaso and went to a local spa to relax with a massage and a soak in a hot tub.
Day 3: History and Culture
On my last day in Boosaaso, I decided to explore some of the city's historical and cultural sites. I started by visiting the local museum, which had exhibits about the city's role in ancient trade routes, as well as displays of traditional Somali textiles and handicrafts. Afterward, I went to the local university, where I attended a lecture by a prominent Somali historian about the rich cultural heritage of the Bari region. For lunch, I went to a local restaurant called Jubba, which served traditional Somali cuisine like spicy lamb stew and flatbread cooked in a clay oven. In the evening, I went to the local theater to see a performance of traditional Somali music and dance.
